Description of the Awards Categories:
Debate & Forensics awards are divided into two categories, debate and individual events. Kansas Wesleyan debaters have competed in any or all of the following debate events: Parliamentary (a two-on-two limited preparation), Lincoln - Douglas (extensive preparation using research and cited sources), IPDA (Individual Public Debate Association, limited prep., one-on-one), Team IPDA (like the previous, but two-on-two). The individual events awards fall under the three genres of Limited Preparation Speaking (Impromptu - no source citations, informal style; Extemporaneous - source citations, formal), Platform (prepared, structured) Speaking (After-dinner - humorous; Communication Analysis - application of a communication theory to a current communication artifact; Informative - detailed description of a topic; Persuasive - takes a stance on an issue) and Literature Interpretation (Dramatic Interpretation - theatrical script; Duo - Two-person team uses literature from theater, prose, or poetry; Poetry - program of poetry with common theme; Program of Oral Interpretation - program involving two or more categories of literature, examining a common theme; and Prose - program from prose literature with a common theme).
